Reflections on Menopause. By Tiffy George

What I wish I’d known sooner about menopause – a guest post by Tiffy George

Menopause is not just for ‘older women’. Perimenopause typically begins in your early 40s (and even as early as 35) and marks a period of significant biological, physical and emotional changes.

Each women’s experience is different. For some, the menopause transition can be an unsettling and vulnerable time. The intensity of symptoms can depend on genes, coexisting health conditions and your relationship with stress.

Shedding light on the terms

Menopause = The milestone moment when you’ve gone a full year without a menstrual bleed (the average age is 51)

Perimenopause = The rollercoaster of hormonal flux that leads you to post- reproductive life (this phase can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years)

Post Menopause = The period of life following menopause, which makes up roughly 40% of a women’s life.

Knowledge is power

You are not losing it! Perimenopause is like adolescence in reverse – a natural life transition. Think of it as an ‘upgrade’ to the next phase of life.

There’s so much you can do to ease symptoms. It’s never too late (or too early!) to start focusing on YOU, your health and your wellbeing. Pay attention to what triggers
or soothes your symptoms and embrace the changes.

Menopause may mark the end of menstrual periods but it is also a new beginning. You get to choose how you’d like to live your best post menopause life.

Yoga is a balm for perimenopause and menopause

Yoga can be your best friend during times of change. It offers a rich resource of poses, breathwork and meditation practices which can be easily integrated into your life to help soothe common perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

Practicing yoga can remind you of your innate resilience and this can feel empowering.
