JOURNEY TO HANDSTAND

JOURNEY TO HANDSTAND

JOURNEY TO HANDSTAND – A Pop-Up Series With Charli Livingstone

Flip your perspective and take flight!

In this series of practical handstand pop-up classes, expect to prepare the whole body to get up-side down safely, build strength, stability and body awareness. Learn techniques and mechanics of handstands, practice strength and mobility drills and have lots of playtime.

In these sessions you can expect to use props, including the wall, and to work with partners at times, to build towards a variety of handstands – whether you are just gaining the courage to get up-side down, or working towards holding a straight line or a press handstand.

These classes will take place one a month and are included in all Studio/Full Memberships and Class Packs. Bookings are available for ClassPass users too!

Check out the schedule below and book your place today.

Getting upside down
Friday, April 5, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

This first pop-up class in the series will be focussed on getting up-side down for the first time, yet there is always something new to learn, so it’s suitable for total beginners to more experienced.

Kicking up
Friday, May 3, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

This second pop-up in the series will build upon what we learnt in the first class, with a specific focus on alignment and catching your balance when kicking up into handstands. We will include shoulder mobility and stability, core conditioning and using the legs effectively.

Cartwheels and falling out of your handstand
Friday, May 31, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

For the third class in the series we will practice different ways to fall or bail out of your handstand, with a focus on using the cartwheel. This playful session will help you to build courage to get upside down and catch yourself on the way down.

Holding different shapes
Friday, July 5, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

In this session we will continue to build upon previous weeks, and play around with different shape possibilities, perhaps including straddle, split legs, tuck and pike. As always, we will begin with a warm up and conditioning element that will prepare us for these shapes.

Handstands with backbends
Friday, August 2, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

Backbends can be useful for the shoulder mobility and stability we need for handstands, and there are many fun possibilities when we combine the two, including shapes such as the “scorpion” and hollow-back. Whether you do the shapes or not isn’t so important, the fun is in the journey, and the strength and conditioning along the way!

Quest for the press
Friday, September 6, 2024
6:30pm – 8:00pm

Press handstands are a lot about technique, compression strength and mobility. In this session we will work on lots of fun drills that will help you on your journey towards the press.

All classes are suitable for all levels of experience. We will always include focus on the basics, strength and mobility drills, and elements of play, and will offer different options based on who shows up. Even if you decide not to go upside down you can still have fun and build your conditioning, technique and awareness towards handstanding throughout this series.
