A 90 minute Mandala special – exploring the season of Spring and the element of Wood. In TCM, the wood element relates to the Liver – which some consider to be ’the grand architect’ for our vision and dreams of the future.

Spring, and the element of Wood, represents growth and renewal, the inner voice encouraging us to get out there, open our windows to the fresh spring air, step into our dreams and bloom!

This pop up class is part of a larger 5-part Mandala Vinyasa series focused on the 5 elements of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) – Water, Metal, Wood, Earth and Fire.

Mandala Vinyasa is fluid, cyclical and intention-led. You can expect a well rounded practice that explores guided meditation, breath-work, mandala vinyasa and yin or restorative practices to close. This workshop is for anyone who wants to start developing skills in arm balances and take flight on the mat! We will look at the technique, flexibility and strength required for different arm balances like the Bakasana family (crow, one legged crow, side crow) Eka Pada Kounandyasana (flying splits), Astavakrasana (eight-angle pose), Pincha Mayourasana (forearm balance) etc. and start to build confidence in these postures or take your very first steps.

The workshop is not suitable for complete beginners to the yoga asana practice.

Simple joys – vinyasa flow, restorative, yoga nidra

with ISABELL BRITSCH

Sun, May 12, 2024

4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

£35

Yoga helps us to remember what we already know, our true nature, which is essentially joyful and peaceful. – Donna Farhi

Joy – mudita in sanskrit or pali – is a quality that has been mentioned regularly in the ancient wisdom traditions. It supports a more positive outlook on life, and gives rise to states of ease, resilience, appreciation, gratitude, and contentment.

We start with a short reflection on joy and how to invite it into our life. This thread is then woven through an energetic, fiery vinyasa flow sequence guided by the breath. We’ll cultivate strength and mobility in equal measure, explore a variety of transitions, meet challenges and have fun.

We then shift from active to passive, releasing deeper tension in the body and mind through a series of long, delicious, restorative postures. We conclude with a deep guided relaxation (Yoga Nidra).

Treat yourself to this 3 hour mini-retreat, leave with body, heart and mind rested and balanced, and with renewed inspiration to meet the ever changing rhythm of life.

Part of a series of workshops with the same structure, yet constantly evolving themes. For everyone apart from complete beginners.

SUTRA FLOW

with SHIRA HESS

Fri, June 21, 2024

6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

£25

Sutra – a thread, an aphorism, a short verse encapsulating a whole teaching.

In this Friday session we will weave together threads from the Tantric texts Shiva Sutras and the Vatulanatha Sutras – Sutras of the wild master – (latter only very recently accessible, and both translated by Christopher Wallis) into a moving practice, revealing and experiencing these dense teachings through the body.

In a meditative, slow vinyasa practice inspired by a selection of verses and their commentary, we will feel into the deep meaning contained within the texts somatically. Closing with a longer savasana accompanied by sound healing, will allow the practice and the verses to sink in, and deeply relax and sooth.

This is not an intellectual exercise, but a unique opportunity to steep yourself in 1000-year-old yoga linage that captures life with all its complexity so profoundly. It also points towards a way to experience life more fully, more courageously, and free from conditioning.

Come to discover ancient texts through the physical practice and tap into the all-encompassing power of yoga!

YOGA AND QIGONG SERIES

with JAYNE MILLER

6 videos

All levels

£12

Yoga and Qigong weave together beautifully. Both can be flowing forms, helping us to tap into and use our energy, and yet instil a deep inner calmness. Yoga can often seem linear (e.g. Sun Salutations) with an emphasis on extension and strong asana, while Qigong movements are often softer, circular and rhythmic, with a big emphasis on grounding.

Qigong practices are closely linked to five elements and in turn these relate to seasons as well as organ systems within our bodies, to bring us into harmonious balance with ourselves and our environment. The five elements of Qigong do not correspond exactly with the five elements of yoga, but together they help us find our natural balanced state.

These six short practices embrace the rich backgrounds and traditions of both and introduce you to the five elements of Qigong. Close the series with a meditation and breathing practice focused on the middle and the lower dantian (energy points).

The videos can be practised together, individually, whenever as you please.

The Chakra Energy System is an organised system that operates in the Pranamaya Kosha, or energy body, through which prana, the vital life-force, flows. This is where the health of our energetic, emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual being is integrated, expressed and reflected. When we feel vitalised and vibrant, our emotions are balanced, and energy levels feel abundant. When we are feeling stressed out, pushed to the limit, this is reflected in poor energy and health. Each energy centre is a sphere of information, with qualities and characteristics relating to health and wellbeing. Through meditation and reflection, we can tune in and tap into the inherent wisdom within and connect to their positive attributes.

Meditation is a wonderful way of getting to know and tune into the vibrational energy of the chakras. In this series, you will find a meditation on each individual chakra, that will guide you through their specific qualities and traits. There is also a complete chakra meditation to practice.
